Sealant for use in environments with special cleaning requirements.
The invention relates to a sealing ring (1) for sealing the gap between two telescopically assembled (Fig. 1) substantially cylindrical sealing surfaces, of which the inner, the spindle (2), which is smooth on the part which will come into contact with the sealing ring (1) is inserted into the outermost portion of the casing (3), in whose inner cylindrical cavity, in the immediate vicinity of its end, is formed a recess extending all the way around the inner circumference, which recess is designed to receive a portion of the sealing ring (1) formed such that the body portion of it, completely and without cracks or pockets, fills the recess formed inside the housing (3).
O-ring type sealing rings are available in myriad designs, with many different properties and for solving many different tasks.
For example, various scraping rings are known for shafts and other tubular or solid bars used in, for example, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, which have a cross-section consisting of a body for accommodating a recess or cut in the cargo through which it tubular bar must be routed, which body typically has neutral or negative radius relative to the tubular bar to be passed through it, and a lip portion for abutment against previously mentioned tubular bar and having a positive radius relative thereto, facing the contaminated side of the to avoid the ingress of dirt and contaminants in the systems used. Sealing rings of this type, also referred to as scraper rings, are not recommended for sealing in which circular dynamic movements occur, but are used for linear movements longitudinally of the enclosed circular bars.
These sealing rings have the disadvantage that they are most often designed so as to make difficult-to-reach pockets and cracks appear, which significantly impairs thorough cleaning.
This is not compatible with sealing rings for use in the food and pharmaceutical industry, since there are special requirements for cleaning ease.
Products used here must be designed so that cleaning is facilitated as far as possible, in addition, they must be able to withstand chemical and mechanical stress from the comprehensive daily cleaning, even with the strong cleaning agents required in food production, without being degraded and without accumulating , or deliver harmful substances to the environment on the aseptic side.
In this connection, a product from the Swedish company HUHNSEAL AB which in US patent US7125019 can be used for sealing a static joint in connection with a shaft insertion (see Figs. 3 and 5) and claims 14 and section 0041 in the description). The product is shown on their website as a hygienic o-ring's product called '' UP-O-RING '' which product on the website, is clearly shown as an ordinary o-ring, with a, in cross section, mainly rectangular with rounded corners main to precise admission into a recess formed therein in the goods through which the shaft is to be passed, which body has a negative radius relative to the shaft to be passed through it, and a lip part for abutment against the previously mentioned shaft, and with a positive radius in relation to this through the o-ring shaft this lip protrudes on the aseptic side of the gap to be sealed, where it is intended that the pressure from the medium on the aseptic side will help maintain the close contact between the lip portion of the seal ring and the shaft.
However, this excellent product in itself has, among other things, the inconvenience that, in the absence of the contribution of the media pressure on the aseptic side, e.g. during cleaning and downtime, there is the possibility of cracking between the lip of the seal ring and the shaft. Furthermore, due to the lack of assistance in keeping the sealing lip pressed tightly against the cylindrical sealing surface in these cases, the product is not recommended for sealing where dynamic rotating movements can occur, especially in environments without pressure differences. In addition, thorough cleaning is also difficult. .
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a sealing ring for use in the food industry without the disadvantages mentioned above and which achieves the advantages of the hygienic static design (o-ring solution) while at the same time allowing for a slow dynamic hygienic and cleaning friendly solution.
The following abbreviations will be used in this description. USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) FDA (Food and Drug Administration, USA), EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering Design Group) 3A (3-A Sanitary Standard) (USA): DIN (International Standard)
The object of the invention is met by a sealing ring of the type set forth in the preamble of claim 1, characterized in that, in addition to having a cross-section which differs from a circular shape, it also fills the gap left between filled recess and casing, while another part of the sealing ring, which is contiguous with the above body, extends from the recess into the gap between the two cylindrical sealing surfaces towards the end of the casing, and along the way fills the gap completely without cracks or pockets, until the said end of the casing where the sealing ring ends at the edge of the sleeve in a smooth, unbroken, even surface with no cracks and pockets extending from the edge of the sleeve to the spindle.
In this way, the sealing ring is always obtained, regardless of lack of assistance from media pressure or any. spring pressure, supported by the underlying casing, and will therefore always span the smooth portion of the spindle, providing a durable, unbroken, easy-to-clean, overall surface against the aseptic side. The sealing ring, therefore, also due to this underlying support of the sheath, will also be applicable for slow dynamic conditions and, for the same reason, may also partly act as scraping for slow linear movements under the same conditions.
Claim 2, characterized in that the sealing ring has approximately a P-shaped cross-section, and relates to a suitable embodiment.
Claim 3 is characterized in that the sealing ring is made of a polymer material which is mold stable, has a surface which appears smooth and without cracks, is of low porosity and without unevenness on the surfaces on the product side, the material can withstand physical cleaning and cleaning chemicals and is repellent to spores. and microorganisms, the material must also meet the requirements of the responsible authorities and international organizations for substances used in the food industry, thereby obtaining that the seal ring can be approved for use in the food industry by the same authorities and organizations. (FDA, EHEDG and 3A)
Claims 4-7 are characterized by defining areas of application for the sealing ring.
This does NOT mean that there are no other obvious uses for the sealing ring according to the invention, only that the above-mentioned uses have only been chosen.
The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 shows a sealing ring according to the invention, used as a seal between a spindle, partially threaded, and a sleeve covering this thread.
FIG. 2 as FIG. 1, but here in perspective.
FIG. 3 shows the sealing ring with surrounding machine parts as seen from the aseptic side.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view of a leveling assembly using a sealing ring according to the invention.
FIG. 5 shows the same leveling assembly simply without intersection.
Figures 1 and 2 show a sectional view of a section of a machine part. may be a hygienic machine shoe also referred to as a leveling assembly (see Figs. 4 and 5), which assembly represents a typical area of application of the sealing ring (1) of the invention where it prevents dirt and impurities from penetrating between a sleeve (3) and a spindle (2) where it could form the soil for microorganisms and other contamination. This is achieved by the sealing ring (1), whose cross-section in a preferred embodiment is in the form of a "P", which "P" as shown in (1) and the circle (4), abuts completely against the spindle (2) throughout the trunk of the height of "P", at the same time it is evident from the same figures that the entire arch and the short part of "P "'s legs are completely in contact with the recess formed in the sheath (3), which gives the sealing ring (1) ends tightly, without cracks and pockets between spindle (2) and sleeve (3) throughout "P" height.
As the "P" 's legs therefore close tightly, at both the spindle (2) and at the lower edge of the sheath (3), thereby forming a smooth and smooth surface between said spindle (2) and the sheath (3) such as it can be seen from FIG. 3, the sealing ring (1) and the enclosing machine part are obtained with a smooth cleaning-friendly surface without cracks and pockets facing the aseptic side (Fig. 3). The sealing ring (1) is made of a polymer material that is mold-stable, has a smooth, crack-free surface and is of low porosity and free from surface-level surfaces, the material can withstand physical cleaning and cleaning chemicals and is repellent to spores and microorganisms, the material also meets the requirements of the competent authorities and international organizations for substances used in the food and pharmaceutical industry (eg 3 A Sanitary Standard 18-00 and 03 and similar at EHEDG) The sealing ring (1) will therefore easily be able to obtain approval for use in food production by the same authorities and international organizations. The sealing ring (l) will typically be used for stainless steel fittings used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, including hygienic pipe screws, flange and clamp connections, and aseptic flange joints designed to international standards. (DIN 11853 and 11864).
Furthermore, the tight enclosure of the sealing ring (1) between the spindle (2) and the sleeve (3) means that the sealing ring (1) according to the invention can also be used in areas where two articles are rotated, thereby producing a slow linear movement, without thereby compromising the cleaning-friendly surface facing the aseptic side, this means that the adjustment ring (1) will also be able to clean the smooth part of the spindle (2) when adjusted.
Other areas of application include, for example, hygienic top nuts for use in aseptic and non-aseptic environments.
